Don'ts: keep it natural

I figured a good start would be to give some advice for what to avoid when laying your makeup. So here is my first "Don'ts" post.

1. Chose the right foundation color for your skin! Lot's of women uses a darker shade than their natural skin color, but instead you should use one shade lighter. If you find it hard to chose the right shade for your skin, go to a cosmetics store, and ask the people working there which color matches your skin; They should know! Try the foundation on the back of your hand to see if it blends in with you natural skin tone. But remember, our hands are often a few shades darker than our face. I'm very fair skinned, so for me, it's almost always the lightest shade that matches the best. I'm both lucky and not; it's easy to find the right color but I would prefer being tanner.. haha!

2. Don't overdo your bronzer. You're suppose to make your skin look sunkissed, not change your skin color. I learned to apply the bronzer in the shape of the number 3. Like this:
I'm sorry about the "model", quickly made in Photoshop. But hopefully you understand what i mean. :) When you have done this, you can take whats left on you brush to even it out and remember to apply on your neck, to avoid a divide between your face and neck. If you want to, you can apply some extra bronzer under your cheekbones to sculpture your face. But be careful, don't overdo it at make sure you apply it correctly. Don't use bronzer on your apple cheeks, that's what your blush is for!

3. Don't make "spider-lashes". They look like this, and are not pretty:
Don't apply too much mascara, and be sure it's not outdated. You should buy a new mascara every third month, and also, cleaning the mascara brush can be helpful if you tend to get spider-lashes. I'll make an entry later about how to wash your brushes.. While applying mascara, make sure the brush isn't all sticky with mascara, and use only a few strokes. People uses different techniques, and I wouldn't say there is only one right way. Personally I don't apply from the roots, but about half way out. My lashes are naturally black, but if you have light lashes you would probably want to apply from the roots and out. I often blink while applying and I think that's an easy method :) Doesn't matter how you do it, just keep it natural and avoid the spider effect.
If you want dramatic lashes, use fake lashes or eyeliner!

Good luck ladies and keep it natural :)
